`Madagascar' game to arrive before film

If life is a zoo, your kids get a chance to play their part with ``Madagascar,'' the new video game based on Dreamworks' upcoming animated film.

Loaded into a portable game player, ``Madagascar'' engages players in the world of four New York zoo animals and their crafty penguin sidekicks as the city animals discover their true instincts when an adventurous journey lands them on the remote island of Madagascar.

Players become Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe or Gloria the hippo, and must master each character's unique skills and learn to live on their own as they explore a variety of diverse environments from New York's urban streets to a giant cargo ship to the isolated beaches and exotic animal-filled jungles of Madagascar.

Activision's ``Madagascar'' is coming to store shelves May 24, three days before the movie's release.

Suggested retail price is $39.99 for the game that runs on Sony's PlayStation2, Microsoft's Xbox or Nintendo GameCube. The price is $29.99 for the game that runs on Game Boy Advance.
